Mizzou football lands Lee’s Summit tight end, first pledge of 2022 recruiting class

The Missouri Tigers and MU coach Eliah Drinkwitz have picked up their first recruit of the 2022 recruiting class. And in turning the page, there should be a new GIF to declare another recruiting win.

Three-star tight end Max Whisner announced his commitment Monday to Mizzou, becoming the first pledge for next year. Whisner, from Lee’s Summit, is the No. 462 recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports. He chose the Tigers over offers from high-major schools like Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa State and other schools.

The Tigers have continued their hot recruiting ways despite the NCAA mandating a dead period because of the COVID-19 pandemic barring on- and off-campus recruiting. Mizzou also has some recruiting restrictions because of MU’s infraction case that was finalized last year.

While the 2021 recruiting class — which features 19 pledges — isn’t anywhere near done, it’s never too early to pick up pieces for the future. Coaches were allowed to start contacting high school juniors, the 2022 recruiting class, starting Sept. 1. Drinkwitz has already moved fast, picking up Whisner.
