Mizzou basketball red-hot on recruiting trail, lands pledge for second straight day

Missouri Tigers coach Cuonzo Martin made it two straight days with a commitment Tuesday, landing a fifth pledge for his 2021 recruiting class.

Three-star forward Yaya Keita of St. Louis announced his commitment to Martin’s program on Twitter. The 6-foot-9 forward chose Mizzou over offers from the likes of Iowa, West Virginia and St. Louis.

“It’s been great experience for me since day one of my recruiting process as I can commit to only one school,” Keita tweeted. “I’m happy, excited, and blessed to announced my commitment to Mizzou. Thanks to all the coaches that have been interested in me and follow me through my journey I’m thankful.”

The Tigers secured Trevon Brazile’s pledge Wednesday, just hours after offering him a scholarship.

Keita joins a crucial 2021 recruiting class for Martin, who’s entering his fourth year as MU’s head coach. The Tigers have four other recruits this cycle: Anton Brookshire, Kaleb Brown, Sean Durugordon and Brazile.

While Brookshire projects at guard and the other three pledges are wings, Keita has a chance to play as a forward. Mizzou loses forwards Jeremiah Tilmon and Mitchell Smith after next season, so Keita should be able to fight for playing time.
