Mizzou football adds kicker/punter transfer from Kentucky as special-teams depth
The Missouri Tigers shored up their special-teams depth Friday, adding former Kentucky kicker/punter Grant McKinniss. He announced his transfer decision via Twitter and will aim to finish his college career in Columbia.
McKinniss handled kickoff duties for the Wildcats the past two seasons, kicking off 133 times, and turned in a solid freshman year as Kentucky’s punter in 2016. He averaged 39.2 yards per punt that season and was nominated for the Ray Guy Award, given to the nation’s top punter.
A native of Findlay, Ohio, McKinniss should be in the mix for MU’s starting punting and kicking jobs once camp opens. He will compete against the likes of Aaron Rodriguez, Logan Brock, Harrison Mevis and Sean Koetting for kicker duties. As a punter candidate, he’ll see competition from Josh Dodge.
The Tigers must replace former kicker and punter Tucker McCann, who exhausted his eligibility. McCann handled both duties for Mizzou last season. He has signed with the Tennessee Titans.
