Mizzou football recruiting goes back in-state, picking up a St. Louis safety

The Missouri Tigers stayed red-hot on the recruiting trail Tuesday, returning to within state borders to land three-star safety Tyler Hibbler.

Hibbler announced his commitment via a Twitter livestream hosted Tuesday by Elite Amateur Sports, a St. Louis-based site. Hibbler, a Trinity Catholic product, chose Mizzou over offers from Louisville, Michigan State, Arkansas and other schools. 247Sports ranks the 5-foot-11, 183-pound Hibbler as the No. 660 recruit in the nation.

It’s been a short while since Mizzou picked up an in-state prospect, the most recent being four-star St. Louis defensive end Travion Ford, who committed April 30. MU coach Eliah Drinkwitz has prioritized recruits within state borders, an undertaking that has proved successful for the first-year coach.

Hibbler’s commitment is Mizzou’s fifth recruiting win in six days, a stretch that’s seen them climb steadily in the national recruiting rankings. The run started with junior college defensive end Shemar Pearl last week.

Hibbler is the Tigers’ 15th commitment as part of their 2021 recruiting class. Here are the other 14:

  • Four-star defensive end Travion Ford (St. Louis)
  • Three-star running back Taj Butts (St. Louis)
  • Three-star offensive lineman Connor Tollison (Jackson)
  • Three-star quarterback Tyler Macon (East St. Louis)

  • Three-star cornerback Darius Jackson (Red Oak, Texas)
  • Three-star tight end Ryan Hoerstkamp (Washington)
  • Three-star defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo (St. Louis)
  • Three-star defensive back Davion Sistrunk (Melbourne, Florida)
  • Three-star cornerback Daylan Carnell (Indianapolis)
  • Three-star cornerback Zxaequan Reeves (Cocoa, Florida)
  • Junior college defensive end Shemar Pearl (Plano, Texas)
  • Three-star linebacker Zachary Lovett (Rockledge, Florida)
  • Three-star linebacker Dameon Wilson (Kings Mountain, North Carolina)
