Missouri Tigers basketball adds former Hawaii guard Drew Buggs as graduate transfer

For a while, the Missouri Tigers men’s basketball program was racking up misses in recruiting. Now, MU coach Cuonzo Martin is belting out some hits.

The Tigers added another key piece to their roster Sunday in Hawaii graduate transfer Drew Buggs. The guard made his announcement via Twitter.

Mizzou also recently landed transfer Ed Chang, a sharpshooting wing who played last season at Salt Lake Community College and San Diego State before that.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Buggs is considered a pass-first guard who will likely slot in at the point guard position for the Tigers. He averaged 9.4 points, 5.4 assists and 4.5 rebounds last season with Hawaii. As a graduate transfer, he’s eligible to play immediately.

With Buggs’ commitment, the Tigers are now at their maximum of 13 scholarship spots. There’s a chance that changes — Xavier Pinson, Jeremiah Tilmon and Mitchell Smith have each made themselves eligible for the 2020 NBA Draft, but any or all of them could still return to MU. The deadline to withdraw from the draft is June 3.
