It was a busy recruiting weekend for new Kansas football coach David Beaty, who collected a parade of commitments after playing host to a large collection of recruits on campus for official visits.
Before the weekend was over, five recruits offered their official commitments to Kansas, according to Rivals.com. Four of those recruits hailed from the state of Texas, where Beaty, a former high school coach in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has promised to make hay on the recruiting trail.
The Jayhawks, who desperately need help on the offensive line, landed a commitment from junior-college offensive guard De’Andre Banks, a three-star recruit from Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.
They also received commitments from Emmanuel Moore, a two-star receiver from Justin, Texas; Arico Evans, a two-star “athlete” from Hillcrest High School in Dallas; Jace Sternberger, a two-star tight end from Kingfisher, Okla.; and Shaquille Richmond, an unranked cornerback from Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas.
According to Rivals.com, Kansas now has 17 commitments in the class of 2015, including nine three-star recruits. The Rivals’ ranking system goes up to five stars.
The Jayhawks will need a full recruiting class to help combat a depleted roster. Kansas will lose more than 20 seniors off the 2014 roster.
