Christian Reeves, a 7-foot-2, 255-pound center who announced his plans to transfer from College of Charleston to Kansas on April 24, has signed a financial aid agreement with KU, men’s basketball coach Bill Self announced Friday.
Reeves, a senior-to-be and native of Charlotte, North Carolina, played two seasons at Duke and one at Clemson before transferring to the College of Charleston for the 2025-26 season.
“I think that Christian will have an immediate impact for us,” Self said Friday. “He really didn’t have an opportunity to play a ton until College of Charleston and what was so impressive is he averaged over 11 points and eight rebounds a game with a hurt shoulder all season long.
“It’s exciting because he’s dealt with so many injuries (including two procedures on his ankle at Duke) and for the first time in his college career we can see the potential because it’s the first time he’s really been able to play.”
At College of Charleston, Reeves started 18 of 31 games and averaged 21.4 minutes, 11.1 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds in earning third team all-conference honors. His 7.8 rebounds per game ranked fifth in the Coastal Athletic Association.
He ranked second in the CAA with 1.42 blocked shots per game and his eight double-doubles were third in the league. Reeves posted career highs against Elon with 29 points and 18 rebounds.
Reeves began his college career at Duke and played for two seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24. The following season, in 2024-25, he played in 29 games, with one start, at Clemson.
A graduate of Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, Reeves was rated the No. 5 player from the state of North Carolina by ESPN100 coming out of high school.
Reeves is the third transfer to join the KU roster for the 2025-26 season. Keanu Dawes, formerly of Utah, and Leroy Blyden Jr, formerly of Toledo, were the first two.
Reeves is expected to compete with returning 7-footer Paul Mbiya for playing time at center next season. Also, the Jayhawks on Thursday landed Grant Mordini, a 6-11 pivot from Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut.
KU has 11 players on scholarship. Teams are allowed 15 players on scholarship in accordance with NCAA rules.
