Former Kansas men’s basketball guard Corbin Allen, a two-time winner of the DiRenna Award out of Oak Park High School, has committed to Appalachian State, he announced Wednesday on social media site X.

Allen, who entered the transfer portal on April 17, practiced but did not play in games as a redshirt during the 2025-26 season.

The 6-foot-5, 175-pound combo guard chose Appalachian State over North Dakota State, Belmont, East Tennessee, Sam Houston, San Diego, Lindenwood and Georgia Southern.

His high school coach was former KU guard Sherron Collins.

Allen originally committed to San Diego before reopening his recruiting after receiving interest from KU.

“Yes, I did,” Allen said, asked by The Star if he “learned a lot” practicing with the KU team during the 2025-26 campaign.

“Playing with the best and learning from the best all year, I am a better player now than I was going into KU. The experience at KU was very nice. I loved being close to home and having support all around me. Lawrence is a special place. I loved all the fans, coaches, teammates and being in the environment of Kansas basketball,” Allen added.

Allen said he simply was “looking for a better opportunity for me to get on the court.”

Allen, who as a senior helped Oak Park High claim the Missouri Class 6 state title, did get to play in one exhibition game as a Jayhawk. He went 0-for-4 shooting while grabbing two rebounds while playing two minutes in the Jayhawks’ 71-35 victory over Fort Hays State on Oct. 28 at Allen Fieldhouse.

Allen signed a financial aid agreement with KU on May 20, 2025. That’s after he decommitted from San Diego.

He has four years of eligibility remaining.

Allen was a three-time first-team all-state pick in high school. He was the first player in Oak Park High School history to surpass 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career.

Oak Park went 31-1 during Allen’s senior season. Allen averaged 16.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game in 2024-25.

As a junior at Oak Park, Allen averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals. In 2023-24, Collins’ first season as Oak Park head coach, the Northmen posted a 27-5 record and advanced to the Missouri Class 6 State Tournament semifinals.

Other former KU players to pick new schools via the portal: Flory Bidunga (Louisville), Samis Calderon (Butler), Jamari McDowell (Wake Forest), Bryson Tiller (Missouri) and Elmarko Jackson (Georgetown).

KU has added three transfers: Leroy Blyden Jr. (Toledo), Keanu Dawes (Utah) and Christian Reeves (Charleston).
