Former 4-star Kansas football cornerback enters the transfer portal
Former Kansas cornerback Damarius McGhee entered the transfer portal Wednesday, McGhee told The Star.
McGhee left the program in March, along with linebacker Tristian Fletcher.
“They’re no longer on the roster and they’ll be finishing school,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said back in March. “I don’t know their plans as far as playing. I think both of them right now are just going to graduate and take the next step. But we appreciate those young men.
“Both had trouble staying healthy. Good young men, love both of them. Love their personalities. Very unselfish, never a problem with attitude or work ethic.”
McGhee was a former four-star recruit who spent his two seasons at LSU. He played as a freshman before redshirting in his sophomore season. He transferred to Kansas before the 2023 season.
McGhee spent much of his first season with the Jayhawks battling a back injury, playing only in KU’s season opener vs. Missouri State.
The 6-foot, 175-pound corner from Pensacola, Florida, was a backup last season. He finished with eight tackles over the first six games before suffering an injury and missing the remainder of the season.
McGhee will have one year of eligibility remaining unless he’s granted a redshirt season for one of his shortened years at KU.
