Where is Kansas football quarterback Jalon Daniels with his injury rehab?

Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels continues to recover from what KU called a “minor knee procedure” he underwent in February.

“He’s starting to do a few things,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “We’re able to get him out there in some controlled situations. He’s on a throwing program right now, and we’ll continue to see what little bits we can implement him (in) down the stretch. But (he’s) progressing in every way that he’s supposed to be.”

Heading into KU’s spring practices, Leipold expected Daniels to be a limited participant. In fact, Daniels wasn’t seen in KU’s practices until this week. He was even seen running an option play on Thursday.

Having Daniels on the field, even for some practices, is a positive sign for Kansas. He’s struggled to stay healthy during his college career.

This spring marks the second straight year in which Daniels’ participation has been limited. He missed much of last spring’s sessions while recovering from a back injury sustained during the 2023 season.

Due to the injury, he played in just three games that season. Daniels also missed multiple games in the 2022 season because of a shoulder injury. He was able to play in all of KU’s games in 2024, but his performance — and KU’s overall performance — left a lot to be desired.

He finished strong after a slow start, throwing for 2,454 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 447 yards and six touchdowns.

Daniels decided to return to Kansas for his final season in December. The season is pivotal for the veteran QB, who has NFL aspirations.

Kansas had a busy offseason, bringing in a new group of wide receivers for Daniels’ final fall in Lawrence. After the departure of his three starting wideouts from last season, KU used the transfer portal to reload.

KU added receivers Cam Pickett, Levi Wentz and Emmanuel Henderson Jr., and tight end Keyan Burnett. All four are currently participating in spring ball, while Columbia transfer WR Bryson Canty will join this summer.
