Kansas Jayhawks football OC Jeff Grimes reportedly targeted by Wisconsin Badgers
Kansas Jayhawks assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes is being targeted for the offensive coordinator job with Wisconsin, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Friday.
According to Thamel, the move had yet to be completed.
Grimes joined KU’s staff before the 2024 season after previous offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki left to become the OC at Penn State.
KU’s offense struggled to start the season, but the Jayhawks finished ranked No. 53 nationally in points per game (29.7). KU also ranked No. 3 in third-down conversion percentage and No. 28 in red zone offense.
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold defended Grimes when the Jayhawks’ offense struggled early in the year.
“Is that a play-call? Is that a player? It’s a little bit of everything,” Leipold said then. “You’re looking for one answer or two answers in this, and I can’t give you that. I wish it (was) always that easy. But it’s not, and that’s why you win and lose as a team, and we have to continue to get better in a lot of different ways.”
Before coaching at Kansas, Grimes worked at Baylor and BYU.
In his first season with the Bears (2021), he was a finalist for the Broyles Award, given to the top assistant coach in Division I football.
