Bill Self gives health update on KU basketball guard Rylan Griffen after Creighton game
Kansas guard Rylan Griffen missed Wednesday night’s game against Creighton due to the flu, coach Bill Self confirmed postgame.
The Jayhawks (7-1) lost 76-63 to the Bluejays at CHI Health Center. Griffen did not travel with the team, Self said, but is expected back soon.
His absence was certainly felt. Griffen is a pivotal piece for this Kansas squad, averaging 8.1 points on 34.5% 3-point shooting. He has started several games this year, though he’s come off the bench of late.
His scoring prowess and spacing were undoubtedly missed as the Jayhawks shot just 35.7% from the floor on Wednesday night.
Self provided an update on Griffen’s status postgame.
“He had symptoms yesterday. That’s why he didn’t come,” Self said. “I’d like to say we could have used him tonight, but the reality of it is, I don’t know if he would have been actually able to go. We will practice again on Friday and we anticipate him being out there.”
Griffen last scored 10 points on 5-for-8 shooting in a blowout win over Furman on Saturday. He added four rebounds, two steals and a block in 16 minutes.
The Jayhawks will prepare to face rival Missouri in Columbia on Sunday. The Tigers defeated Cal on Tuesday.
