Kansas QB Jalon Daniels shows off new chain ... that plays his highlights on loop
Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels showed up to Big 12 Media Days in Arlington, Texas, with a shiny gold suit, white dress shirt, red tie and ... perhaps the most creative piece of neckwear you’ll see this week.
Or month. Or year.
For his Big 12 Media Days look, Daniels sported a chain with his initials and number “JD6” inscribed, plus a silhouette of the Heisman pose. Hanging from the chain was a small screen resembling the face of a smartwatch, which played Daniels’ highlights from the 2022 season on loop.
The chain first appeared on social media in a video from Voice of the Jayhawks Brian Hanni, who asked the Kansas quarterback a few questions about the jewelry.
“So you were just telling me, this is from a jeweler in LA, huh?” asked Hanni.
“Yes sir,” Daniels responded, adding of the highlight reel: “I think like a minute and 30. Just plays on repeat.”
For Daniels, who was recently named KU’s first-ever Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, the Heisman silhouette could reference his 2022 campaign. Daniels led the Jayhawks to a 5-0 start and was brought up in some early Heisman conversations before suffering a shoulder injury against TCU.
He returned late in the season and nearly led a dramatic comeback against Arkansas in a triple-overtime Liberty Bowl loss.
In nine games, Daniels completed 152 of 230 passes (66.1%) for 2,014 yards with 18 passing touchdowns and four interceptions. He also ran for 419 yards and seven more scores.
Daniels was named to the All-Big 12 second team for his efforts in the 2022 season. He now returns to the program as one of the top Big 12 passers, and he announced the news emphatically in January amid some internet speculation that he could pursue other options as a transfer.
Other Jayhawk attendees at Big 12 Media Days are coach Lance Leipold, safety Kenny Logan, linebacker Rich Miller and running back Devin Neal.
