Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels isn’t leaving the Jayhawks anytime soon.

Daniels announced on social media on Friday that he plans to return to the program in 2023 — presumably instead of entering the NFL Draft or transfer portal.

Instead, Daniels will return for his senior year. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

“Ever since I first touched the field at 8 years old, it was always a dream of mine to be able to play college football at the Division I level,” Daniels said in a video posted to social media. “Under the lights — with my brothers listening to the roar of the crowd and being able to accomplish what many people thought that I couldn’t.

“These past three years, you brought me in as one of your own, helped us pack the Booth (David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium), stayed down with us when nobody else believed and have not only helped me grow as an athlete but as a man. This season has brought many trials and tribulations, but along with those trials and tribulations were many blessings that not only I was able to achieve as a player, but we were able to achieve as a program.”

At the end of the video, Daniels spun a football while crouching down on a field. He then said: “So stop asking. 2023, it’s up. Rock Chalk Nation, let’s do it.”

The video ended with a graphic of Daniels with the words: “Job’s not finished.”

Last season, Daniels led the Jayhawks (6-7, 3-6 Big 12) to their first bowl appearance since the 2008 season.

Kansas lost 55-53 to Arkansas in a triple-overtime Liberty Bowl thriller at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. Despite the loss, the star QB had quite the game. Daniels broke multiple Liberty Bowl records, including total touchdowns (6) and passing yards (544).

Daniels threw for 2,014 passing yards with 18 passing touchdowns and four interceptions in the 2022 season. On the ground, the QB ran for 425 yards and seven touchdowns.

In his nine appearances, Daniels led KU to a 5-4 record.
