Report: Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki signs contract extension
The Kansas football team appears to be keeping its staff together.
KU offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki has reportedly signed an extension, according to Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated, who wrote it “extends his deal out 5 years.” Kotelnicki initially signed a three-year deal in 2021 that paid him $500,000 annually and was set to expire in February 2024.
A Kansas athletics official declined to comment on whether or not a new extension had been reached, but Kotelnicki is scheduled to address the media on Monday.
Kotelnicki led the Jayhawks’ offense to new heights in his second season.
KU went from ranking 104th in yards per play in 2021 to fifth (7.00) and from 91st to fifth in passing efficiency (163.2). His offense helped lead Kansas (6-6, 3-5 Big 12 play) to its first bowl game since 2008. It also earned him a nomination for the Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant in college football
Kotelnicki was “heavily pursued” this offseason, according to Dellenger. Instead, he will stay with head coach Lance Leipold for the foreseeable future. The pair first coached together at Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2013 and then at Buffalo before landing in Kansas.
