About Emporia State: The Hornets were picked to finish seventh of 14 teams in the MIAA preseason men’s basketball media poll and picked ninth in the league coaches poll. …Craig Doty is 35-46 entering his fourth season at ESU. He led Graceland to an NAIA national title in 2017-18 and Rock Valley College to NJCAA Div. III national titles in 2015-16 and 2012-13. … Emporia State went 11-12 in 2020-21 — 11-11 in MIAA games. It was the first time the Hornets have been at least .500 in MIAA games since going 10-9 in 2013-14. ... Jumah’Ri Turner, a 6-3 senior from Minneapolis, Minnesota ranked fifth in the MIAA in scoring (18.8 ppg), sixth in free throw percentage (84.3%), 14th in field goal percentage (51.1%) and 15th in steals (31 in 23 games) a year ago. ... ESU coach Doty on Monday described his coaching philosophy in a post on Twitter. He wrote: “We try to be an analytics-driven program and make practice matter. (For example) we stat all 5 versus 5 drills. We send both the daily and cumulative box scores to our guys each day. We film, clip and share all practices.
