KU football’s Les Miles has a new strength coach. The two have worked together before

Kansas football coach Les Miles has hired a new strength coach for his program — and someone who will be a familiar face.

Ben Iannacchione, who served the last two years as the Wyoming football team’s strength and conditioning coach, will take over as KU football’s “director of sports performance.” He replaces Zac Woodfin, who was hired as Missouri last week.

Iannacchione worked under Miles when he was a full-time strength and conditioning coach for LSU from 2012-15, overseeing the football team’s offensive linemen and also the Tigers’ men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs.

“I am excited to welcome Ben and his family to Kansas,” Miles said in a release. “I certainly enjoyed my time working with him in the past and look forward to reuniting as we continue to move our program forward.”

Prior to his last two years at Wyoming, Iannacchione spent two seasons as LSU football’s associate strength coach, working directly with running backs, fullbacks, tight ends and linebackers.

Iannacchione also received some notoriety in 2019 when one of LSU’s former running backs, Leonard Fournette of the Jacksonville Jaguars, chose to fly to Wyoming to work out with him again over the summer. Fournette reported in an interview with Bleacher Report that Iannacchione’s training regimen helped him lose 20 pounds.

“I am blessed to have the opportunity to come to school like Kansas and work with Coach Miles again,” Iannacchione said in a release. “It is truly an honor to be a member of his staff. I am excited to get to Lawrence and get to work.”

Iannacchione also was the Youngstown State football team’s strength coach in 2015. He originally was an offensive lineman at Boise State, lettering in 2007-08 and playing on the team that won the 2007 Fiesta Bowl.
