Mizzou hires Zac Woodfin, former KU coach, as strength and conditioning director

Missouri Tigers coach Eliah Drinkwitz has filled one of the most important openings on his staff, hiring Zac Woodfin as director of athletic performance for football.

Woodfin, who has NFL experience as a player and coach, spent the last three years as Kansas in the same role. He’ll oversee daily strength and conditioning for the Tigers. He was also FootballScoop’s 2014 National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year.

“It’s an unbelievable opportunity to serve Mizzou’s student-athletes, the staff and the program,” Woodfin said in a release. “I’m excited to coach in the best conference in college football and coach for a man like Coach Drinkwtiz.

“Every single aspect of this job fires me up and energizes me. I’m fortunate and blessed and I’m going to go above and beyond to do more than what is expected in order to help the program. I can’t wait to get going.”

Woodfin won’t count as one of Drinkwitz’s 10 assistant coaches. Mizzou has officially signed eight coaches as Drinkwitz hopes to complete hiring by Jan. 6.

When Drinkwitz met with media before the Tigers’ Braggin’ Rights basketball game against Illinois, he mentioned there were five crucial positions in his program: head coach, director of football operations, athletic trainer, equipment manager and director of athletic performance. Woodfin’s hiring completes one of those areas.

“Those people have to have my message and my vision for our program,” Drinkwitz said. “They’ve got to carry that and just going through the process, trying to find somebody who is going to be unified with our vision.”
