Here’s an update on Kansas Jayhawks guard Marcus Garrett’s ankle injury
Kansas junior guard Marcus Garrett expects to make his return to the lineup in Sunday’s road game against Stanford.
Garrett suffered a right ankle injury in the first half of KU’s 56-55 road loss to Villanova last week.
“I’m feeling better. I do expect to play,” Garrett said Friday.
Garrett has gone through two practices — one Thursday and Friday — since the Jayhawks returned from Christmas break.
“I thought he was good yesterday, and I thought he was sore today. You could tell he didn’t move (as well), but we practiced at 9 in the morning too,” KU coach Bill Self said. “I think he’s going to be fine. I don’t know that it’ll be 100%, but he’ll play against Stanford.”
Self also said he planned on starting Garrett against the Cardinal.
Garrett agreed with a reporter who asked if his ankle was between 75% and 85% health. Self told The Star on Thursday that he believed Garrett was “probably 75%” during Thursday’s practice.
“I’m feeling good. I can move and do all the things,” Garrett said.
Last season, Garrett battled a left high ankle sprain that limited him in the Big 12 and NCAA Tournaments. He said this injury was much less severe, as it was a more common sprain.
Garrett did say he was frustrated to be a spectator when his team lost a late lead against Villanova.
“That was difficult. Just thinking the whole time that I was going to play the whole game — just knowing the gameplan we had to stop them, then me not being out there,” Garrett said. “It just had me hurting almost, sitting on the sideline.”
