Marcus Garrett practices as Kansas Jayhawks return from short holiday break

Kansas junior guard Marcus Garrett, who injured his right ankle in Saturday’s 56-55 loss to Villanova, took part in Thursday night’s practice and “did well,” KU coach Bill Self said in a text message to The Star after the workout.

Garrett is “probably 75 percent,” Self indicated. Self said Garrett likely would play in Sunday’s game at Stanford, “if he continues to improve.”

Dallas native Garrett and his teammates were awarded four days off following Saturday’s loss in Philadelphia. They gathered in Lawrence on Thursday night for a short workout. They will practice on Friday and also work the annual holiday clinic for youths at Allen Fieldhouse.

The No. 5-ranked Jayhawks, who have defeated Stanford the past three seasons, will take a 9-2 record into Sunday’s game, set for a 2 p.m. Central time, tipoff at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, California. Stanford (11-1) is not ranked.

Stanford is led by fourth-year coach/former KU guard Jerod Haase.
