Kansas State defensive back Jacob Parrish selected in third round of NFL Draft

Jacob Parrish was the first Kansas State football player to be selected in the NFL Draft this week.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the third round on Friday. He was the No. 84 overall pick in the draft.

Parrish, a 5-foot-10 and 191-pound cornerback from Olathe, rocketed up draft boards after he decided to forgo his senior year of college football and declare for the NFL Draft.

He said he wanted to prove he had NFL speed, and he did exactly that by running the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

From that point on, it was clear he could help a professional team at the next level.

Add that to a stellar career at K-State that featured 50 tackles and seven pass breakups as a junior, and he quickly became the Wildcats’ best draft prospect in this class.

Most expected him to be selected on the second day of the NFL Draft. It was just a matter of when.

The Buccaneers ended the drama on Friday night when they selected him in the third round. He will be expected to make an impact early during his professional career as a plug-and-play corner who is capable of shutting down wide receivers in the passing game.

This is the fifth straight year in which K-State has produced a pick in the NFL Draft.
