About Arizona State (12-9, 3-7 Big 12)

The Sun Devils are coming off a frustrating 81-72 loss against rival Arizona in which BJ Freeman was ejected and Bobby Hurley refused to shake hands with the Wildcats. It will be interesting to see where their minds are at heading into this game.

Arizona State has been an up-and-down team this season. It owns wins over Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Saint Mary’s and West Virginia. It has also lost seven of 10 conference games. Freeman is the team’s leading scorer.

About Kansas State (10-11, 4-6 Big 12)

The Wildcats have surprising won three games in a row and they are coming off an 80-61 victory at Iowa State. K-State is a rapidly improving team, and it will look to add to its winning streak against the Sun Devils.

David N’Guessan is the team’s leading scorer, but he has been getting lots of help lately from the rest of K-State’s starting lineup. All five starters are averaging more than 9.5 points per game. The Wildcats ended a 15-game road losing streak in their last game. They now have a chance to make it two road wins in a row.

K-State game prediction

The Wildcats are on fire.

They have won their past three games by an average of 20 points and they have covered the spread in six straight games.

K-State has been playing above expectations ever since it shook off a slow start and began playing inspired basketball last month.

Will its hot streak continue against Arizona State on Tuesday? Good question. The Sun Devils enter this game as small favorites, because they have a similar profile to the Wildcats and will benefit from home-court advantage. This could also be a tricky sandwich spot on the schedule for K-State, as it falls between rivalry games against Iowa State and Kansas.

On paper, Arizona State has the advantage.

But that may not mean much if K-State continues to play the way it has over the past few weeks. The Wildcats have been red hot from 3-point range and their defense has also been impressive. K-State held West Virginia, Oklahoma State and Iowa State all below 62 points during its current winning streak.

It’s also worth pointing out that Arizona State lacks a killer instinct. It was in position to win recent games against Arizona, Iowa State and Baylor and failed to make clutch plays in all of them.

K-State is bound to cool off at some point, but I don’t think it happens against Arizona State.

K-State 73, Arizona State 67

Last game prediction: Iowa State 85, K-State 65

Actual score: K-State 80, Iowa State 61

Season record: 14-7

Season record ATS: 9-12

Season record O/U: 9-12
