One of Kansas State’s scholarship players has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal and continue his college basketball career elsewhere.

Anthony Thomas, a 6-foot-7 guard with three years of eligibility remaining, is on the move after spending just one season with the Wildcats.

“Thanks Kansas State for a memorable year,” Thomas wrote on social media. “The moments and friendships I’ve built will last a lifetime. But in order for me to move forward in my basketball career I have to enter my name in the transfer portal. Thanks, I look forward to my next opportunity.”

Thomas didn’t play in a single game for the Wildcats, but he did help K-State behind the scenes as a redshirt last season.

Head coach Jerome Tang and K-State players both praised Jerrell Colbert, Taj Manning and Thomas for their work on the scout team in practices as the Wildcats were winning 26 games and reaching the Elite Eight.

Thomas came to K-State after stops at Tennessee-Martin as a freshman and at Tallahassee Community College as a sophomore.

He averaged nine points as a freshman and 11 points as a sophomore.

Thomas is the second scholarship player that K-State has lost to the transfer portal this spring. Ismael Massoud also announced transfer plans and is currently considering a move to New Mexico or Fordham, with other schools also showing interest in him.

Their departures leave K-State with four open scholarships to fill ahead of next season.

Tang has said he hopes to use at least three of those spots on incoming transfers, hopefully a pair of experienced guards as well as a versatile big man.

K-State is currently in the mix for Oral Roberts transfer Max Abmas, North Texas transfer Tylor Perry and Hofstra transfer Aaron Estrada.

Abmas visited K-State last week and is also considering Texas. Perry has listed K-State in his top four along with Florida, Mississippi and Texas Tech.
