Kansas State to renew basketball series with former Big 12 rival in Kansas City
Nearly a decade has passed since Kansas State and Nebraska have met on the basketball court.
Both sides apparently agree that is long enough of a wait.
The former Big 12 rivals have agreed to play a series of three games, starting next season in a neutral setting at Sprint Center in Kansas City, a source confirmed.
K-State and Nebraska will begin the series next December at Sprint Center, followed by a game at Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena in 2021 and then a game at Bramlage Coliseum in 2022.
The series was first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. Neither K-State nor Nebraska has publicly announced the games.
It seems like a good time for K-State and Nebraska to renew their basketball series, which the Wildcats currently lead 126-93.
Both teams are coming off disappointing seasons and last-place finishes in their conferences. K-State won 11 games this past season, while Nebraska won seven under first-year coach Fred Hoiberg.
K-State coach Bruce Weber has been eager to start a series with a Big Ten team, but he hasn’t been able to successful schedule one during his time in Manhattan. This will be K-State’s first game against a Big Ten opponent since playing Michigan in the 2012 preseason NIT Season Tip-Off at Madison Square Garden.
The Wildcats have played a regular-season game at Sprint Center in each of the past two seasons, defeating Vanderbilt in 2018 and falling to Saint Louis this season.
They are now scheduled to play more regular-season games in Kansas City for at least the next two seasons. In addition to its upcoming game against Nebraska, K-State will also participate in the 2021 CBE Hall of Fame Classic with three to-be-determined teams.
