One of the greatest football players in Kansas State history shared some scary news this week.

Michael Bishop recently had a stroke, according to a post he made on social media Monday.

“Thanks for all your prayers!” Bishop wrote. “I had a small stroke and a blood clot behind my left ear. I’m recovering well and will have upcoming rehab to regain my strength. EMAW.”

The good news is that Bishop, 43, is recovering and healthy enough to post about the scare on social media from his home in the Houston area.

Bishop played quarterback for the Wildcats for two of their best teams in 1997 and 1998. During that time, he led K-State to 22 victories by throwing for 4,401 yards and 36 touchdowns in addition to rushing for 1,314 yards and 23 touchdowns.

After joining the Wildcats as a junior-college transfer, Bishop guided K-State to an 11-1 record and a victory over Syracuse in the Fiesta Bowl as a junior.

The following year, he guided the Wildcats to 11 straight victories and their first No. 1 ranking before ending the season with a pair of losses in the Big 12 championship game and then the Alamo Bowl.

Bishop was a Heisman Trophy finalist as a senior.

Bishop, 43, was a seventh-round pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He lasted two seasons in the NFL before playing on a number of minor-league teams.

He is a member of the K-State athletics hall of fame.
