Kansas State lands four-star QB recruit with offers from LSU, Michigan and Penn State
One day after Kansas State ended its first season under football coach Chris Klieman with a narrow loss to Navy at the Liberty Bowl, the Wildcats bounced back with a big victory on the recruiting trail.
K-State began the new year and the offseason in an encouraging way when Jake Rubley, a four-star quarterback from Highlands Ranch, Colo., announced his commitment to the Wildcats on social media.
Rubley is the nation’s 126th-rated prospect in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports, and 228th according to Rivals. That makes him the highest-rated recruit that Klieman has landed since taking over in Manhattan a year ago. He is also the first four-star quarterback to pledge his services to the Wildcats since current starter Skylar Thompson.
The 6-foot-3 passer chose K-State over a number of other high-profile schools — he held scholarship offers from 18 different teams, including LSU, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Some have wondered how the Wildcats planned to address their quarterback situation after Thompson graduates following the conclusion of the 2020 season, because they lost a pair of freshmen passers to the transfer portal last year. But the additions of Will Howard in 2020 and now Rubley should ease those concerns.
Rubley, a junior in high school, is the fourth known member of K-State’s 2021 recruiting class.
K-State was already off to an encouraging start for that recruiting cycle, but Rubley could give the Wildcats extra momentum as the biggest prospect Klieman has successfully recruited since succeeding Bill Snyder.
