Downtown Kansas City streets closing for Big 12 tournaments. Here’s how to get around
Downtown streets have begun closing for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship tournaments that return to Kansas City this week.
Activities surrounding the events will require the closure of several streets around the T-Mobile Center and Municipal Auditorium.
If you’re headed downtown, here’s what to expect:
- Grand Boulevard, between 13th Street and Truman Road, closed Monday and will remain closed through 6 a.m. Sunday.
- 14th Street, between Main and Walnut streets, closed Monday and will reopen at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. There will be valet access to 14th between Main and Walnut during the closure.
- 14th, between Walnut and Grand, closed Monday and will reopen at 6 a.m. Sunday.
- Walnut, between 13th and Truman, closed Monday and will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday.
- Truman Road, from Oak to Walnut, and the Grand Boulevard Bridge are limited to one lane through 6 a.m. Sunday.
- Oak, between 13th Terrace and westbound Truman, will be limited to two lanes starting at noon Wednesday through 8 p.m. Saturday.
Residents and guests of Two Light apartments will have access to the building’s garage throughout the event.
Streets in downtown Kansas City and the Crossroads Arts District will also close on a rolling basis beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday for Kansas City’s Big 12 Run and continuing until the conclusion of the race around 10:30 a.m.
The course will require the closures of the following streets:
- Grand Boulevard between Eighth and 13th streets;
- Eighth, between Grand and Holmes Street;
- Holmes, between Eighth and 18th Street;
- 18th, between Holmes and Grand;
- Grand, between Truman Road and 18th;
- Truman, between Oak Street and Grand;
- Oak, between Ninth Street and Truman; and
- Ninth, between Grand and Oak
