Wichita State coach Todd Butler rewarded shortstop Dayne Parker for a hot streak by moving him to No. 2 in the batting order Sunday.
Parker continued his late-season surge with a first-inning home run and later walked twice. Parker has four homers this season, three in the past five games.
“I’m starting to square up balls and hitting the inside pitch a little better,” Parker said. “The swing is feeling good, overall, so that helps out a lot.”
He replaced right fielder Garrett Bayliff, 0 for 7 in the first two games, who moved down to seventh and went 2 for 5.Eight on the move
Eight WSU seniors were recognized before the game and received a framed jersey before watching a highlight video on the scoreboard.
They are: Bayliff, Parker, infielder Erik Harbutz, outfielders Micah Green and pitchers Aaron LaBrie, Foster Vielock, Cale Elam and Drew Palmer. All but Elam, who pitched Friday, and Vielock played on Sunday.
WSU also has 12 juniors on the roster, several of whom will be drafted in June and sign. Of the 12 players who played Sunday, only sophomore center fielder Daniel Kihle and freshman pitcher Sam Tewes are sure to return.Worth noting
