That’s why he’s thereWichita State coach Todd Butler rewarded shortstop Dayne Parker for a hot streak by moving him to No. 2 in the batting order Sunday.
Parker continued his late-season surge with a first-inning home run and later walked twice. Parker has four homers this season, three in the past five games.
“I’m starting to square up balls and hitting the inside pitch a little better,” Parker said. “The swing is feeling good, overall, so that helps out a lot.”
He replaced right fielder Garrett Bayliff, 0 for 7 in the first two games, who moved down to seventh and went 2 for 5.
Eight on the moveEight WSU seniors were recognized before the game and received a framed jersey before watching a highlight video on the scoreboard.
They are: Bayliff, Parker, infielder Erik Harbutz, outfielders Micah Green and pitchers Aaron LaBrie, Foster Vielock, Cale Elam and Drew Palmer. All but Elam, who pitched Friday, and Vielock played on Sunday.
WSU also has 12 juniors on the roster, several of whom will be drafted in June and sign. Of the 12 players who played Sunday, only sophomore center fielder Daniel Kihle and freshman pitcher Sam Tewes are sure to return.
Worth notingWSU lost a series at home for the first time since Pittsburgh swept the Shockers to open the 2013 season … Dallas Baptist won its fourth road series this season and its third in MVC play. The Patriots are 16-10 on the road … WSU’s ERA of 4.67 for the weekend is its second-worst for an MVC series, trailing a 7.36 ERA at Evansville … WSU catcher Tyler Baker went 4 for 10 (.400) with a home run in the series … Patriots first baseman Mike Wesolowski went 9 for 15 with five runs scored.
