The Week Ahead: Events for the week of April 28

Friday CYCLONE GRIDIRON CLUB:

The club will have a meet-and-greet with Iowa State offensive line coach Brandon Blaney at Tanner’s, 10146 W. 119th St. in Overland Park. The event is open the public and beings at 8 p.m.; www.cyclonegridironclub.com.

Saturday TRIUMPH OVER TRAGEDY 5K:

The run is at the Garmin Headquarters in Olathe at 8 a.m. The event raises funds for scholarships for family member of those impacted by cancer. Registration is at www.sportkc.org.

DRAGON DASH:

The 5K and 1-mile fun run is 7:45 a.m. All proceeds go to the Corinth Education Foundation. Walk and race starts and ends at Corinth Elementary School, 8301 Mission Road in Prairie Village. For more information, go to corinthdragons.com or call the school at 913-993-2900.

TOUR DE CYCLONE:

The 7-, 22- or 40-mile bicycle ride through Wyandotte County includes two supported stops. The rides begin at 8 a.m. at Bishop Ward High School, 708 N. 18th St., in Kansas City, Kan. All of the proceeds go to the school’s student scholarship fund. Register at www.wardhigh.org/cycling2014.

HEART AND SOLE CLASSIC:

The 5K run/walk and 10K run starts at 8 a.m. in downtown Olathe. The event benefits Special Olympics Kansas. Registration available at www.enter2run.com, or by downloading a registration form available at www.kansasheartandsole.com.

Sunday TOUR DE HOPE:

The third annual Tour de Hope is at the Liberty Memorial.There are three different routes appealing to all level of riders: a 15-mile, 35-mile and a 62-mile ride. There is a staggered start with riders going off at 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., and 9:00 a.m. Registration is at www.tourdehope.org or you may register at the event. There will be food and beverages provided after the ride, which benefits The Hope Center.

Coming up RUGBY:

The Kansas City Blues will play host to the Queensland Outback Barbarians, an international team from New South Wales, Australia, for a match May 10 inside the championship stadium at Swope Soccer Village. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

CHIEFS 5K:

The race, which benefits the United Way of Greater Kansas City, is May 10 at Arrowhead Stadium and costs $40 to register (through May 8) at www.kcchiefs.com/community/Chiefs5K.html.
