These NCAA men’s and women’s championships are coming to Kansas City in 2025-28
Kansas City will continue to be a destination for college sports championships.
The NCAA announced future championships on Wednesday and Kansas City landed multiple events, starting with 2025 Division I women’s soccer, to be played at CPKC Stadium.
It will be the first NCAA Women’s College Cup played at the KC Current’s stadium, which opened this year as the first built specifically for women’s soccer. It will be hosted by the Kansas City Sports Commission and University of Kansas.
In 2026, Kansas City will host the NCAA Fall Festival, a collection of Division II championships over a week: men’s and women’s soccer at CPKC; volleyball at Municipal Auditorium; field hockey at Pembroke Hill; and men’s and women’s cross country at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence.
Those events will be hosted by the MIAA and sports commission.
The 2027 men’s basketball Midwest Regional Sweet 16 and regional championship, hosted by the Big 12, will be played at T-Mobile Center.
“We’re thrilled,” said Kathy Nelson, president of the Kansas City Sports Commission. “And we’re proud because plenty of work went into this process.”
The NCAA awarded championships over a two-year bid cycle. Kansas City has one championship remaining from the previous bidding period, the 2025 Division I volleyball championship at T-Mobile Center.
Kansas City cast a wide net, bidding for 23 championships.
CPKC Stadium will host its first college event starting later this month. The Big 12 women’s soccer tournament starts Oct. 30, with a Nov. 9 championship game.
“We hope this is a foundation for us and we’re able to build on this,” said Kansas City Current president Raven Jemison.
Other championships awarded in the area: 2027 Division I cross country regionals at Gans Creek Cross Country in Columbia and 2027 Division II cross country regionals in Joplin, Mo.
The University of Missouri will host the 2027 NCAA wrestling championship in St. Louis.
