The Kansas City Mavericks played two games this past week, winning both to improve to 7-3-1.

In the team’s annual Kids Day Game last Tuesday morning, the Mavericks came away with a 6-5 victory in front of more than 3,000 schoolchildren from throughout the metro area.

Kansas City jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Six Mavericks players scored a goal by game’s end.

Alternate captain Joshua Lammon picked an opportune time to record his first goal of the season, notching the game-winner with one minute remaining in the second period.

After four days off, the Mavericks traveled to Wichita Sunday afternoon for their second consecutive Sunday afternoon clash with the Thunder.

Star forward Tristan Mullin found the back of the net less than 90 seconds in before Wichita scored twice. Forward Loren Ulett, playing in his 203rd game in a Mavericks sweater, equalized in the second period. Moments later, Mullin scored his second goal and has now recorded a point in five straight games.

With the Thunder scoring two early in the third period, Mavericks forward Jeremy McKenna evened the tally with 10 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime at 4-4.

In the Mavericks’ second overtime game of the season, defenseman Theo Calvas scored the game-winning goal off a faceoff. The Mavericks left Wichita with a 5-4 victory.

KC is now 3-0-1 in one-score games and currently sits in third place in the Mountain Division at 7-3-1 with 15 points.

LEAGUE LEADERS

After scoring three goals this past week — and two in the winning effort versus Wichita on Sunday afternoon — Mavericks forward Tristan Mullin currently leads the ECHL with 11 goals this season.

Additionally, with the Mavericks scoring 11 goals in two games this past week, the team’s 4.36 goals per game currently ranks second in the league.
