Kansas City Monarchs, in the playoffs for 4th straight year, open postseason Wednesday

The Kansas City Monarchs open the 2022 American Association playoffs Wednesday evening at Lincoln, Nebraska against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

The Monarchs clinched a playoff spot on Aug. 20 but did not know their final seed and opening-round opponent until this week. The Kansas City club, formerly the T-Bones, are in the playoffs for the fourth straight season and won the league championship last season.

Game 1 against the Saltdogs is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Haymarket Park. Game 2 in the best-of-three series is slated for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the Monarchs’ home park in Kansas City, Kan. — Legends Field. Game 3, if needed, would be Saturday at 6 p.m. at Legends Field.

The Monarchs finished with the best record in the American Association this season — 65-35. Lincoln went 49-51. The Monarchs beat the Saltdogs nine times in 12 regular-season matchups at were 4-2 in Lincoln this year.
