Here’s when (and against whom) Kansas City Comets soccer team opens 2022 MASL playoffs
Having clinched the Major Arena Soccer League’s Central Division title, the Kansas City Comets will open the playoffs with a two-legged quarterfinal against the Dallas Sidekicks.
The first leg will be played at Dallas on Saturday, April 9. The second game, with the Comets the home team for this round, will be at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence on Tuesday, April 12.
The Comets (13-7-1, 40 points) were 4-2 against the Sidekicks during the regular season, which for Kansas City concludes this Sunday at home against the St. Louis Ambush.
Single-match tickets for the April 12 opening-round game — which also would admit the bearer to a potential Game 3 “mini-game,” if necessary — are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com and the Cable Dahmer Arena box office (groups of 10 or more can get discounted tickets by calling the Comets at 888-9-COMETS. Comets season ticket-holders can secure their tickets for all three potential rounds of the Ron Newman Cup playoffs until April 4 at 5 p.m.
Here’s the format for the playoffs: The Comets, as well as the league’s other two two division winners, qualify for the playoffs, along with the teams with the next five best overall records. Teams will be seeded 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5. Each round is a best-of-three series. Only in the event of a tie through two matches would the third game, the mini-game, be needed.
Sunday’s regular-season final against the Ambush is also the Comets’ annual Military Appreciation Game. The Comets players will be wearing special military-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game on the arena concourse. Proceeds from the auction benefit Team Fidelis, a charitable organization whose mission is to prevent suicide among active service members, veterans and their families.
