With playoff spot set, past KC Comets stars gathering to celebrate franchise milestone
The Kansas City Comets have clinched a spot in the Major Arena Soccer League playoffs, and now it’s time to celebrate.
Here’s what’s going on with the local MASL team this week.
Saturday vs. Ambush
The Comets return to Cable Dahmer Arena for a 6 p.m. Saturday showdown against their rivals from across the state, the St. Louis Ambush.
The Comets will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the team’s arrival in Kansas City by honoring a number of former Comets stars at halftime — slated to attend, among others, are Gino Schiraldi, Enzo DiPede, Alan Mayer, Kia, Kevin Handlan, Charlie Carey and Kim Roentved.
Current Comets players will be wearing replicas of the iconic rainbow jerseys that the team wore in 1981. Also, 1980s music will be playing before, during and after the game, and the Comets are having an ‘80s costume contest in which the winner will receieve two season tickets for the team’s 2022-23 campaign. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.com or call the Comets at 888-9-COMETS.
Last weekend
The Comets lost 7-3 to the Dallas Sidekicks on Sunday. Leo Gibson, Lucas Sousa and Nick McDonald scored goals for the Comets (12-6).
