Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar received a cortisone shot to combat the inflammation in his right shoulder. The team still hopes he returns to action after two or three more days off.
Omar Infante battled a similar injury this spring. He did not require any injections. But because Opening Day is closer now, the team felt compelled to eradicate Escobar’s problem at a quicker rate.
“We needed to go ahead and knock it out,” Yost said.
Yost indicated Escobar may swing a bat on Thursday. The discomfort arises when he throws, though. He first reported an issue a day or two after arriving at camp. He needs about 10 days of healthy activity to be ready for the season, Yost estimated.
The initial lineup listed Alex Gordon in left field. A subsequent revision removed him from the game. Yost said he erred when writing the lineup, and forgot Gordon had played the past three days.
“He’s better than fine,” Yost said. “He’s wonderful.”
Gordon walked through the clubhouse without any visible limp, and all his limbs also appeared to be attached.
Here is the lineup as Jeremy Guthrie faces the Indians:

2. Omar Infante, 2B.
3. Eric Hosmer, 1B.
4. Billy Butler, DH.
5. Carlos Peguero, LF.
6. Salvador Perez, C.
7. Mike Moustakas, 3B.
8. Lorenzo Cain, RF.
9. Jason Donald, SS.
