The Royals will hold their first official workout as a group on Thursday, the sort of occasion that only comes around a few times each spring: Cause for excitement from manager Ned Yost.
"I’m just glad everybody’s here," Yost said. "It feels different about four times over the course of spring training. The first day you get here, it’s always fun. Then it starts to get boring. And then you can hardly wait for all the players to get here.
"Then it’s here, and you’re glad. And in a couple days, it starts to get boring. You can hardly wait to start playing games. Then you play games for 10 days, and it starts to get boring. Because you’re not playing for anything, and you’re chomping at the bit, ready to go, waiting for the season to start."
Yes, ennui is a chronic condition at spring training, but Thursday still holds some significance. A team meeting is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Yost declined to discuss the details of his address for the group, save for the broad strokes: "Go get ‘em, boys," he said.
The workout should last from 10:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. So if you’re in the area, that’s the time to be here.
