Miguel Almonte among Royals’ minor-league call-ups

The Royals called up the following players to the major leagues on Tuesday, the first day rosters could be expanded from 25 to 40 men: Catcher Francisco Pena, infielders Christian Colon and Cheslor Cuthbert, outfielder Terrance Gore, left-hander Scott Alexander and right-hander Miguel Almonte.

Alexander and Almonte were not on the 40-man roster, which stood at 39 after the addition of outfielder Jonny Gomes on Monday night. To clear space, lefty Jason Vargas, who has a torn ulnar collateral ligament, was put on the 60-day disabled list.
