Rounds of weekend rain and storms linger before summer-like heat hits KC
Rounds of showers and thunderstorms could keep the Kansas City area soggy through at least Sunday, then summer-like heat arrives ahead of the work week.
Scattered rainfall is expected throughout the day Saturday, then storms return in the evening and overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service. Early rainfall predictions are around a quarter to a half inch.
Paired with the rain will be a system that brings humid air, according to the weather service. Temperatures will begin to climb Saturday, when the high could reach the mid-80s. But even warmer temps are ahead.
Weather models show an isolated strong to severe storm is possible Saturday with hail and strong winds, but the chances are marginal, the Storm Prediction Center shows.

Heat index values could climb into the 90s by Sunday or Monday, depending on what the storm systems do, the weather service says.
Temperatures are forecast near to above normal for this time of year, meteorologists said in a Saturday weather discussion.
The forecast shows storms fully moved out of the area by Monday, which is expected to be a sunny day with a high near 89 degrees.
