Wondering when your road will be plowed? A few cities in Johnson County have active maps for residents to track when the snowplow last cleared streets near you.
The Kansas City area is in the middle of a major winter storm, with several inches of snow expected and cold temperatures sticking around after the flakes fall. Between 4 and 6 inches of snow is forecast throughout the weekend.
Merriam, Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee currently have GPS tracking on their snow plows to allow residents to check online. Each map has a key that shows when was the last time one of the city’s trucks cleared the road of snow.

Residents can enter their address into The city of Merriam’s snow removal map online to see which roads are in the process of being cleared. The colored lines have these meanings:
- Blue: plowed in the last two hours
- Orange: plowed 2-4 hours ago
- Black: plowed 4-6 hours ago
- White: plowed more than 6 hours ago
A disclaimer on the website says the GPS-based system might not provide 100% accuracy.
Olathe snow plow map tracker
Olathe residents can see where snow plows named “Salvador Brrez,” “Big LePlowski,” “Taylor Drift,” and other pop culture references are using the city’s online map. Routes have different colored lines, but the guide does not show the timelines on when the roads were last plowed.

- Blue: serviced in the last 12-24 hours
- Red: not serviced in the last 24 hours
Snow plows in Shawnee will clear primary streets from edge of pavement to edge of pavement. Residential streets will receive one plow pass in each direction. In instances where snowfall is over 4 inches, plows will clear residential streets from edge of pavement to edge of pavement after its initial plow pass.
