Kansas City trash pickup canceled due to snow. When will yours be collected?
Trash and recycling pickups collection in some municipalities around the Kansas City metro area were delayed on Monday, Dec. 1, as crews clear snow and ice from the roads.
Today, several inches of snow are expected to cover Kansas and Missouri in the first winter storm of the season. A number of area schools canceled classes as roads turned slippery. The storm comes right after the Thanksgiving holiday, when trash schedules were already out of the ordinary.
Here are the cities where trash and recycling collection is canceled.
Kansas City-area trash and recycling pick-up changes
Kansas City canceled trash collection Monday. Here’s the schedule for trash and recycling services in Kansas City this week:
- Monday, Dec. 1: No trash pickup due to weather.
- Tuesday, Dec. 2: Monday trash pickup
- Wednesday, Dec. 3: Tuesday trash pickup
- Thursday, Dec. 4: Wednesday trash pickup
- Friday, Dec. 5: Thursday trash pickup
- Saturday, Dec. 6: Friday trash pickup
GFL Environmental delayed trash service by a day in their service areas around Kansas City — including Mission, Merriam, Fairway, Roeland Park, Belton and Peculiar — an employee confirmed by phone Monday morning. These municipalities will follow the same schedule as Kansas City for the rest of the week.
The Liberty city government posted on Facebook that Republic Services stopped its Liberty trash collection mid-morning. The post says residents should still put out their trash on their typical day, with crews expected to pick up Monday trash on Tuesday morning.
As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City KS and Johnson County municipalities including Olathe, Prairie Village and Overland Park had not announced changes to their trash schedules.
