Winter storm brings first snow, snarls traffic in KC. Follow for live updates
Kansas City’s roads turned slippery Monday as its first winter storm of the season swept into the area, threatening to dump several inches of snow on the metro area.
Snow began falling early in the morning commute, leading to several crashes across the metro. Traffic was slowed to a crawl in on some major routes as the snow quickly stuck to the pavement.
“Vehicle crashes reported on I-35,” the National Weather Service said on X, formerly Twitter. “Slow down and take your time this morning.”
The Missouri Highway Patrol said that road conditions could deteriorate throughout the day, particularly around noon.
“Make accommodations for the conditions and be sure to give yourself plenty of time to travel and adjust routes if necessary,” the highway patrol said on X.
The weather service updated its snow forecast shortly before 7 a.m., saying that between 3 and 4 inches of snow is expected in the Kansas City metro area, with the heavier snowfall totals likely north of the Missouri River.
