Here comes the sun. But Kansas City area still faces chilly and frosty mornings

The Kansas City area will finally see something on Thursday that it hasn’t had in a while: a mostly sunny day, according to the National Weather Service.

But don’t get too excited. The weather service said chilly mornings, frost and fog are still in the forecast.

A frost advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. for the metro, as well as parts of east-central and northeast Kansas and north-central, northwest and west-central Missouri.

“Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation,” the weather service said. “Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.”

A dense fog advisory has also been issued for areas north of the metro, where visibility could drop to less than half a mile.

Cool, dry weather has moved into the region, so daytime temperatures will stay in the mid-50s on Thursday. For comparison, Kansas City typically sees temperatures of 61 degrees around Halloween.

Overnight, temperatures are expected to fall into the 30s, leading to another chance of frost on Friday.

A cold front extending from the western Dakotas into eastern Colorado is expected to push east and arrive in the region on Friday.

“This front will move through the region with relatively little fanfare, with little moisture to work with, but will reinforce the unseasonably cool conditions across the region,” the weather service said.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 50s on Friday.

The weather for trick-or-treating on Halloween night will be chilly, with temperatures falling from the mid-50s to the upper 40s, accompanied by a gentle breeze.

A Canadian high-pressure system is expected to build into the Northern Plains behind the front and remain in place through the weekend. This could allow temperatures to dip to near freezing across northern Missouri on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Temperatures will stay chilly over the weekend, reaching around 50 degrees on Saturday and 56 degrees on Sunday.

Warmer weather is expected next week, with temperatures reaching near 70 degrees on Wednesday.
