Overland Park police identify woman struck, killed while walking Tuesday morning

Overland Park police have identified a woman who was struck by a vehicle while walking early Tuesday in Overland Park.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday near the bend where Goddard Street intersects with Switzer Road, just north of West 95th Street, said Officer John Lacy, a spokesman for the Overland Park Police Department. The driver was heading east on Goddard when they struck a parked vehicle on the westbound side of the road.

The vehicle continued east and struck a pedestrian, identified as 68-year-old Janet Dam, as she walked west on the edge of the road, Lacy said. The vehicle then hit a tree and came to a stop.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators believe Dam is a local resident who is known to walk in the area daily around 4 a.m. She had no identification with her at the time of the incident.

Overland Park police urge anyone who has information about the crash to contact the Overland Park Traffic Unit at 913-327-6731.
