Kansas City’s first fall weekend: Why you might not need that sweater yet
It’s not sweater weather yet in Kansas City, as the first weekend of fall is expected to be dry and warmer than usual, according to the National Weather Service.
Patchy fog is expected Thursday morning, but once the fog burns off, sunny skies will help temperatures climb to the upper 70s.
A high-pressure system is expected to keep the weather “tranquil” over the area through the weekend, the weather service said.
“Dry conditions with above-normal temperatures are expected Friday through next week, with high temperatures running 5-10 degrees above normal for late September/early October,” the weather service said.
In the metro, temperatures are expected to be around 83 degrees on Friday and Saturday, peaking at 84 degrees on Sunday. For comparison, Kansas City’s temperatures typically are in the mid-70s this time of year.
On Sunday, football fans can expect sunshine, dry weather, and unusually warm temperatures at Arrowhead Stadium, where the the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Baltimore Ravens. Temperatures will be in the 70s during tailgating and warming to around 84 degrees by the 3:25 p.m. kickoff.
The warmer-than-usual temperatures are expected to persist into next week, remaining in the low to mid-80s through Thursday. Little or no rain is expected during this period.
