Rain and drizzle linger in Kansas City. What comes after the storms?

Light rain and drizzle will linger in the Kansas City area on Wednesday, but drier and warmer weather is on the way, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather system that brought over 2 inches of rain to parts of the metro on Tuesday will slowly move out of the area. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms cannot be ruled out south of Interstate 70, the weather service said.

Clouds will keep temperatures in the low to mid-70s, which is close to the typical late September average of 76 degrees in Kansas City.

As the weather system shifts east, an area of high pressure will begin to build, bringing drier weather, the weather service said.

By Thursday, sunnier skies will allow temperatures to climb into the upper 70s. Temperatures will continue to warm into the weekend, reaching the low to mid-80s.

Overall, except for a chance of rain or storms on Wednesday, the rest of the week and weekend look dry and slightly warmer than usual for this time of year.
