Cold front could bring storms near the KC metro. How much rain is possible?

Hot and humid conditions will continue in Kansas City on Wednesday, before possible rounds of scattered thunderstorms in the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Low to moderately heavy rainfall is possible in the Kansas City metro, with around a quarter to half of an inch possible in most areas, the forecast shows. The chance of rain is near 60%, the forecast shows.

Storms and rain are most likely after 4 p.m., then another round of thunderstorms is possible between 7-10 p.m. and overnight. The threat of severe weather is low, but localized damaging wind gusts are possible. Most of the storm activity is expected to be south of the Kansas City metro.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued due to the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and severe heat.

How hot will it be in KC on Wednesday?

Wednesday’s high temperature is expected to be near 92 degrees. With humidity, the heat index will make it feel like around 100 degrees in much of the metro, the forecast shows. South of Interstate 70, heat index values could climb between 105-110 degrees, according to the weather service.

On the other side of Wednesday’s heat and humidity, a cold front is expected to make its way into the metro. That cold front brings the possibility of scattered storms and will linger to provide relief from seasonably high heat, meteorologists said in a forecast discussion.

Thursday’s high temperature will be near 76 degrees on a partly cloudy day, according to the weather service forecast. The chance for showers and thunderstorms is slimmer Thursday, near 20%. Thursday’s overnight low will be near 62 degrees.

Friday’s high temperature will remain in the high 70s, and throughout the weekend, temperatures will creep back up into the low 80s, according to the weather service. Meteorologists predict the next chance for rain after Thursday will be Sunday night.
