Hot, muggy Friday before storm chances in Kansas City. How much rain is possible?

More chances for rain come to Kansas City Friday night after a hot and humid day, with heat index values forecast near 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday will be muggy, with the high temperature near 95 degrees. There’s a chance of severe storms Friday afternoon and evening, with the greatest threats being damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall, a weather service outlook says.

Showers and storms are most likely to develop between 3-6 p.m., and persist into overnight, the forecast shows. The chance of precipitation around the metro is around 60%.

Locally heavy rainfall could lead to 2-4 inches of rain in some parts of the weather service forecast area.

On Saturday, additional strong storms are possible in the afternoon. But severe weather prospects Saturday will depend on how storms evolve Friday night, meteorologists said in a Friday forecast discussion.

Saturday and Sunday, the high temperature cools to near 86 degrees on the back end of a cold front, the forecast shows. The chance for precipitation is near 30% Saturday.
