Kansas City stays hot and humid before chances of rain. When are storms possible?

Heat and humidity continue in Kansas City Thursday, before storms could threaten the area with damaging winds and hail ahead of the weekend.

Thursday, meteorologists monitored a line of storms in Nebraska and Iowa heading toward northwest Missouri and parts of the metro. Those storms got weaker, but there is still a slight chance of rain, around 20% north of highway 36, according to the weather service forecast.

The high temperature Thursday is expected to be near 94 degrees with heat index values near 98 degrees, the forecast shows.

A cold front will then make its way into the metro Friday, meteorologists said in a Thursday forecast discussion. There are two rounds of potential storms, one in the afternoon and a stronger one Friday night.

The greatest threat from the storms are damaging winds, hail, a brief tornado and heavy rainfall that could lead to flash floods.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued to last through the weekend and into next week.

Friday is expected to remain hot and humid, with highs in the mid-90s and a heat index value just under 100 degrees.

Storms Friday night could end in the early morning hours of Saturday, according to the weather service. Another chance of rain, around 40%, is possible later in the day Saturday.
