Cool, rainy weekend ahead in KC. When are tornadoes, strong storms possible?

Stormy weather is in the forecast for Kansas City this weekend, but the threat for severe storms is holding off until early next week, according to meteorologists at the National Weather Service.

The NWS in Kansas City has forecast a wet Friday morning with showers and storms possible throughout the day, but there is a low risk for severe weather. A front between warm and cold air is moving slowly in the region, the NWS said in Friday morning’s weather discussion.

Cooler and drier air will settle in Saturday, bringing a dry and pleasant day, according to the weather discussion. Temperatures Saturday will hover in the 60s with low humidity. The high temperature is forecast near 67 degrees.

Overnight Saturday, more showers and storms are possible, the forecast shows. The best rain chances (50-70%) are forecast for western and southwestern portions of the forecast region overnight Saturday into early Sunday morning.

Periods of showers during a cloudy day Sunday will bring on and off rain to the region. While it won’t be a washout, Kansas City can expect scattered showers and increasing humidity, meteorologists said Friday morning. The high temperature Sunday is forecast near 72 degrees.

Severe storms possible Monday in KC

A hazardous weather outlook is issued for northwest, north central and west central Missouri and eastern Kansas as a more active weather pattern develops Monday. Severe weather becomes more likely Monday afternoon into the evening.

Monday’s strong thunderstorms could include large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes, according to the weather service.

The region can expect a warm and humid day Monday, with highs in the mid 80s and dew points in the mid to upper 60s. Unseasonably high temperatures and moisture will further enhance the possibility of strong storms, the weather service said.
